Fake plaster ceilling molding

Ostin jo joku aika sitten Tigerista tämän muovista prässätyn, taulunkehyksen, mikä oli tarkoitus maalata hopeiseksi ja laittaa seinälle. Noh, toisin kävi.

I bought this picture frame from a shop called Tiger. It's made from thin, pressed plastic. The idea was to spray it silver and hang on the wall. Well, it didn't quite happen.

Katselin kehystä yksi ilta, kun sain päähäni että kehyshän näyttää vanhalta, kipsiseltä kattokoristeelta... eikun väri valkoiseksi ja nukkiksen kattoon kiinni...

I was looking at the frame one night and thought that it looked like those old plaster moldings that some old houses have on their ceillings... I just had to paint it white and attach it to the ceilling.

Olen nyt sprayannut matta valkoista monta kerrosta, mutta vihreä loistaa vieläkin joissain kohtia läpi (siis lisää kerroksia tiedossa), lisäksi maali alkoi "hilseilemään" ...mikä itse asiassa on minusta vaan erinomaista, sillä nyt se näyttää vanhalta ja hieman kosteudesta kärsineeltä.

I've sprayed a few (read 4) layers of matt white but the green is still showing through on some places (need to do some more painting), also the paint started to "crack" which I actually like, since it makes the piece look more old and weathered. 

Päädyinkin samantien testaamaan ideaani miten kiinnittää kehys kattoon ja miten säätää kehyksen syvyyttä, näyttää ihan hyvältä. Täytyy vielä keksiä miten teen saumakohdat siististi.
 
I just had to test if my idea of how I'm going to attach the frame to the rest of the ceilling and how I was going to adjust the depth of the frame worked and I think it looks good so far! Now I need to figure out how to finnish the seams.

First side table done

Sain tänään ensimmäisen sivupöydän valmiiksi. Vielä pitäisi saada tehtyä se toinenkin. Jäin kyllä miettimään pitäisikö pöydän jalkojen alaosaan vielä laittaa hieman "kultauksia"? Mitä mieltä olette, näyttääkö pöytä vähän hassulta kun alhaalla ei ole mitään koristuksia?

Today I finished the first sidetable. Now I just need to do the second one. I'm also pondering if I should put on more "gilding" on the lower legs of the table. What do you think? Does the table look a bit top heavy to you?

Kuten kuvasta näkyy on toinen pöytä vielä palasina, mutta muuten hyvässä vaiheessa. Työläin vaihe on liimata kultaukset, mutta ei sekään kauaa vie.

As you can see from the pic the second table is still in pieces but otherwise in good shape. The most difficult thing left to do is to glue on the gilding but even that doesn't take too long.

Ja pitihän pöytää vielä kuvata oikeassa ympäristössä, vaikka onkin tulossa toiseen huoneeseen. 

 

And of course I had to take a picture of the table inside the house even though it's palce is going to be in another room.

What I've been doing lately

Välttelen edelleenkin aulan seinien panelointia, mikä taas viivyttää portaikon viimeistelyä, mikä taas estää tekemästä...mitään. :) Joten olen taas aloittanut muutaman muun pikku projektin.

Sain ensimmäisen parioven tehtyä valmiiksi, toinen on vielä vaiheessa. Ovissa vaan on sellainen vika etteivät ne aukea nätisti, mutta en lähte niitä ainakaan vielä korjaamaan, sillä silloin suunnittelemani listat eivät peitä rakojat mitkä ovet tarvistevat kääntyäkseen auki.


I'm still avoiding the panelling, witch means I can't finish the staircase, witch means I can't do... anything. :) So once again I have started few new projects. 

I got my first pair of french ​​doors done, the other is still unfinished as you can see. The doors have a flaw, they do not open nicely. But I'm leaving them as is, at least for now, since I can't hide the gaps the doors need to open with the moldings I have in mind for the doorframe.

Toinen tekeleeni on taulu, mikä tulee aulan käytävään, siis siihen mikä johtaa ei mihinkään. Sääli sikäli koska kun laitan käytävän oven paikoilleen ei talulua enää pahemmin jää näkyviin.

Other thing I finished is a painting that's going to the hallway behind the entry hall. I find it a bit sad that the painting won't show much after the hallway door is on place. 

Viimeisin projektini on muhinut päässäni jo useamman kuukauden, mutta keksin oikeastaan vasta eilen miten lähden toteuttamaan ideaani. Pöytiä on siis tulossa kaksi ja kun ne asettaa vastakkain niistä muodostuu isompi pyöreä(hkö) pöytä, näitä käytettiin ennen vanhaa mm. pelipöytinä vieraiden ollessa kylässä. Pöytä on vielä vasta ensimmäisessä kasausvaiheessa, joten mikään ei ole vielä lopullisesti kiinni, (siksi siis nauravat saumat) lisäksi vielä pitäisi liimata loput kultakoristeista paikoilleen.

The last project of mine has been brewing in my head for several months now, but only yesterday I figured how to actually construct my idea. There will be two tables, and when they are set against each other, they form a bigger round(ish) table. These were used in the old as gaming tables when entertaining guests. The table still only dryfitting for the picture, so excuse the laughing seams. I also need to glue on the rest of the gold ornaments in place.

Finished wall sconces

Sain sittenkin nämä kynttilälampetit tänään valmiiksi, tosin ne muuttuivat vielä hieman viime postauksesta.

In the end I did finish these wall sconces today, even thougth they ended up changing a bit since last post.

Wall sconces

Rakenteilla on pari seinä lampetteja. Tähän asti olen vain leikitellyt erilaisten korunosien (ja muiden epämääräisten osien) ja sinitarran kanssa rakennellen erilaisia versioita ennen kun alan liimaamaan osia yhteen. Aluksia aioin tehdä lampeteista toimivat valot, mutta en keksinyt miten olisin piilottanut johdon nätisti joten päädyin tekemään niistä vain koristeet.

I'm trying to make a pair of wall sconces. Right now I'm playing around with my jewellery findings (and other small stuff) and some blue tack before I start gluing it all together. At first I was going to make them with working lights, but I couldn't figure how to hide the power cord nicely enough so now they are going to be non-working ones.

Silver writing set

Sain valmiiksi tun eilen aloittamani kirjoitusväline setin. Se yrittää kovasti olla Ludvig XVI tyylinen mutta en tiedä tunnistaako kukaan sitä siksi.

I finished the writing set I started making yesterday. It's trying to be a Ludvig XVI style but I'm not sure if it is recognisable as that.

Blotteri ja tarjotin syntyivät kivuttomasti folioteipin kanssa ja tuo blotterin imupaperi on kolminkertainen pala valkoista kreppipaperia. Näin jälkeenpäin mietin olisiko tuo tarjotin sittenkin pitänyt jättää tummentamatta sillä se ei enää näytä hopeiselta samalla tavalla kuin tuo blotteri. No onneksi on olemassa kynsilakanpoistoaine millä tuon mustan saa pois jos tulen toisiin ajatuksiin.

The making of the blotter and the tray was easy with the foil tape and the blotter paper is made with three pieces of white crepe paper glued together. Now that the tray is finished I'm thinking if it would have been better to not blacken the tray after all, now it doesn't look silver like the blotter does. Well fortunately there's always nail polish remover to take the black off if I decide so.

Making miscellaneous items

Sain viimein kaikki nukkekodin osat spreijattua, huomenna saan siis talon takaisin kotiin! Sain tänään myös näperrettyä sulkakyniä ja mustepulloja, ja tuli samalla tehtyä vähän muitakin purnukoita tällä ohjeella. Tarkoitus olisi tehdä vielä tuo blotterikin, sitten joskus.

I finally got all the dollhouse parts sprayed and it means that I'll get the house back home tomorrow! I also got an inspiration to make quills and inkwells, and made some miscellaneous jars at the same time. I made these using the instructions from here. I'm also planning on making the blotter at some point.

Muokkasin Turun Taide- ja Antiikkimessuilta ostamaani pikku peiliä symmetrisemmäksi. Vielä pitäisi peittää nuo aukot mistä peili on kulunut niin että tausta paistaa läpi. Mietin tässä vaan kannattaisiko tuo tausta maalata mustaksi vai liimata musta paperi peilin takapuolelle.

I modified the mirror that I bought from Turku's fair to be a more symmetrical. I still need to cover up the spots that the "mirror" has worn off. I'm just procrastinating on it while debating whether to paint the backside black or glue a black paper to the back.

Peili oli ostaessani sen tämän näköinen, eli eipä mun paljoa tarvinnut tehdä. :)
The mirror looked like thins when I bought it so I really didn't need to do much to it. :)

A productive day

Olin tänään yllättävän tuotteliaalla päällä, vaikka olikin huono-olo melkein koko päivän. Sain maalattua pikku käytävän seinät kahteen kertaan ja lattian liimattua kasaan. Vielä täytyy hiukan säätää tuota lattian väriä ja sitten mehiläisvahaa pintaan. Lisäksi sain melkein valmiiksi tuon Ludvig XV-tyylisen nojatuolin.

I was suprisingly productive today even though I was feeling sick almost all day. I got a few coats of paint on the wall of the small hallway and glued the floorboards together. It still needs a little tweaking with the stain and then I can put the beeswax on. I also got the Ludvig XV style armchair almost done.

Tuolista puuttuu enää vain istuintyyny. Onko teillä ideoita mistä materiaalista sen voisi tehdä, kun sen täytyisi joustaa sen verran että saan sen ujutettua paikoilleen käsinojien väliin? Kuva muuten vääristää värejä hieman, tuo silkki on oikeasti vihertävämpää.

All that it needs is a seat cushion. Do you have any ideas what to use for the cushion since it needs to be flexible enough to fit between the armrests? Also I noticed that the colors are bit off in the pictures, the silk is more green in real life.

Small hallway

Koska itse talo on edelleenkin odottamassa tarpeeksi kuivaa ja tyyntä keliä spreijaamiseen oli mineily mahdollisuuteni rajalliset. Ludvig XV tuoli odottaa päätöstä maalaanko rungon tummanruskealla vaiko kullalla, joten jätin idean vielä hetkeksi hautumaan ja kävin viimein pikku käytävän paneloinnin kimppuun. Vielä täytyy maalata seinät ja liimata lattialaudat paikoilleen. Seinäkynttilä on tulossa sitten myöhemmin tuohon kapeimpaan peiliin.

Since the house is still waiting in the bike shed for a drier and less windy weather the choices of what to do were a bit limited. And since I'm not sure if I want the Ludvig XV chair to be dark brown or gold, it's on hold. So I finally tackled the panelling of the small hallway. I still need to paint the walls and glue the floor boards in place. A wall sconce is going to be hanging from the middle panel.

Ludvig XV armchair patterns

Pidemmän aikaa tuota aloittamaani Ludvig XV-tyylistä nojatuolia tuijotettua totesin etten pidäkään sen istuimen muodosta. Fiksuna ihmisenä olisin tehnyt siihen uuden istuimen, eikö? No ei! Piirsin kokonaan uuden version tuolista ja aloitin sen tekemistä! *headdesk* Täytyy ilmiselvästi tilata noita Houseworksin jalkoja lisää että pääsen tekemään tuon toisenkin joskus valmiikisi.

The more I thought about the Ludvig XV chair the less I liked it's seat shape. If I was clever (or sane) I would have just redone the seat but since I'm not I drew a whole new pattern and started making it! *headdesk* I have to orders some more of those Houseworks legs so that I can finish the other one someday.


Tämä toinen on ainakin istuimeltaan paremman muotoinen, pienensin istuinta myös hieman. Käsinojia kun katson ovat ne mielestäni liian isot, olisin tehnyt ne 3mm balsasta jos sitä vaan minulla olisi ollut. Täytyy vaan hioa lisää.

I like this one's seat's shape better, I also made it a little smaller. Now that I look at the armrests they look too thick. I would have made them with 3mm balsa if I had had any, now I just have to sand more.

Ajattelin myös että voisin postata tänne myös nuo "kaavat" joiden mukaan näitä tuoleja teen. Nuo reunimmaisten tuolinen selkämykset on hieman kapeampi kuin tuo toinen joten ei ole sanottua että tuo istuimen leveys käy yksiin sen kanssa, lisäksi en ole vielä kokeillut tuota keskimmäistä mallia tehdä ollenkaan joten siinä myös voi olla virheitä.

I thought that I could post the "patterns" that I'm making the chairs with. The chair backs on the left are a bit narrower than the ones in the middle so I'm not sure how they fit with the seat's width. Also I haven't yet made the chair on the middle (the one with more anqular seat) so I can't be certain that everything fits together perfectly.

How can this be SO HARD!?

Ai miten niin mulla on ongelmia päätöksen teon kanssa? XD En osannu suoralta kädeltä päättää että millasen kaiteen teen niin piti alkaa photoshopilla vääntämään malleja. Joskos se päätöksen teko olis näiden avulla yhtään helpompaa...

You say I have problem with making decisions? XD I couldn't decide what kind of railing I'd like on the stairs so I had to do some photoshopping to see all the options. Maybe this will help me make the pick easier...

Nyt kun katson näitä kaikkia vierekkäin voin sanoa että versio 3 vaikuttaa kauhean harvalta... ei sais ainakaan nykyajan rakennustarkastajan hyväksyntää! :P Eli enää olisi kolme vaihtoehtoa! Onko teillä jotain mielipidettä mikä näistä olisi paras?

Now that I see all the options side by side I can say that version 3 is too sparse...today's building Inspector woulnd't ok that! So I only have three options left! Which one do you think is the best one?

Some finished things

Välillä tuntuu etten saa mitään tehtyä valmiiksi asti, joten mun täytyi kaivaa kätköistäni (enemmän tai vähemmän) valmiita töitä ja näyttä teille että kyllä minäkin joskus saan jotain tehtyä ihan loppuunkin asti! :)

Sometimes I get the feeling that I never get anything finished, so I had to dig up some (more or less finished) things that I hve made just to show you that, yes even I can finish something! :)

Olen tässä väsännyt muotokuvia, mitkä olisi tarkoitus vielä laittaa riippumaan allekain silkkinauhasta. Nämä ovat vielä sen verran kesken etten ole vielä valinnut minkä väristä nauhaa käyttäisin, luulen kuitenkin päätyväni vihreän nauhan kannalle, mitä varastossani ei tietenkään ole. Kehykset ovat kaikki 1,2cm korkeita.

I've also made these portraits that I'm going to hang from a silkribbon. I still haven't decided what color of ribbon I'm going to use but I'm pretty sure I'll go with green, witch I naturally don't have in stock. The frames are all 1,2cm in height.

Kevättä odotellessa tein kukkakori tuleville kevät kukille.
While waiting for spring to arrive I made a new flower basket for spring flowers.

Sain möys viimein aikaiseksi maalata pienen metallisen keinuhevos-charmin, minkä olen ostanut joskus aikoja sitten. En muistanut kuvata miltä se alunperin näytti, mutta tuo satula on ihan alkuperäistä pintaa, muut olen maalannut akryyliväreillä tai tussilla. Keinuhevosen koko on 1,4cm pituussuuntaan.

I finally painted this small metal charm that has been laying around for ages. I forgot to take a before picture but the saddle is like the original finnish was everything else is painted with acrylic colors or permanent marker. The horse is 1,4cm in length wise.

Ludvig XVish armchair

Vaikka mulla on todella monta keskeneräistä projektia lojumassa ympäri kämppää mun oli IHAN PAKKO alottaa jälleen uusi rojekti! Halusin kokeilla tehdä hieman erilaisen nojatuolin kuin tuo aikaisemmin tekemäni (sekin vielä kesken) oli. Tuolista tulee jonkinlainen sekoitus Josjen ja Davidin bogeissa näkemistäni kauniista tuoleista.

I have so many unfinished projects laying around the house and I just HAD TO start one more! I wanted to try to do another armchair. It's trying to be a hybrid between Josje's and David's lovely chairs that I saw in their blogs.

Tässä on tuoli väliaikaisesti koossa ihan vaan varmistaakseni että osat oikeasti sopivat yhteen. Täytyy vielä sahata käsinojat ja hioa kaikki sileäksi ja muotoilla jalkoja vielä lisää.

This is just a tryfit. I still need to saw the arms and sand everything smooth and shape the legs a bit more.
